Shoulder Pain After Car Accident: Gresham Family Chiropractic

Image
We manage many car accident cases in in our Gresham office, and a widespread symptom we see in our patients is shoulder pain. What causes shoulder pain after a car crash? How can chiropractic care help? There are at least two ways that you can develop shoulder pain after a crash: by direct injury to the shoulder joint or by radiating pain from the neck. Direct injury can be caused by striking your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end impact. With this type of injury, you'll usually be aware of the pain shortly after the crash. More commonly, Dr. Ramsey finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the trauma. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the neck. Injured soft tissue in your spine can squeeze nerves in your neck, causing tingling, numbness, or soreness in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist. We've t...

Chiropractic is Safe, According to Australian Study The first study(1) was published in Spine and involved 183 women and men. Can Chiropractic Treatment Help Migraine Headache?

Image
With the Migraine Research Foundation reporting that migraine headaches affect 38 million adults and children in the United States (more than diabetes and asthma put together), it's no surprise that Dr. Ramsey treats a lot of migraine sufferers in our Gresham office. While some patients try to relieve migraine pain with drugs, chiropractic care is a fantastic, all-natural approach that often produces positive results. Research Proves Chiropractic Care Helps With Migraines For example, one report published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics involved 127 patients ranging in age from 10 to 70-years-old who suffered with regular (at least monthly) migraines. Each subject engaged in up to 16 chiropractic sessions. The subjects noted that their headache frequency, duration, and disability two months before the study began, during the duration of the sessions (which was two months), and two months post-treatment. What the researchers discovered is that chiropr...

Chiropractic Treatment for Herniated Disc Problems | Gresham Chiropractor

Image
Regrettably, many of our Gresham patients know the pain caused by a herniated disc all too well. On a positive note, Dr. Ramsey has helped many people with disc pain, and a number of research studies have verified that chiropractic can help people recover from this kind of problem. Research on Herniated Discs and Chiropractic In one report, a group of doctors from Switzerland recruited 148 patients who were suffering with pain in their lower back and legs due to a disc herniation (which was confirmed through magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI). Each individual then received chiropractic adjustments that focused on the area of his or her disc herniation. Results were gathered after the initial treatment session at set intervals--namely, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year--to ascertain what type of short-term and long-term effects, if any, chiropractic offers when it comes to treating this particular problem. Among the information gathered was the person's self-reporte...
